I've been noticing this shift for some time now as well. There's both the shift away from obvious identity markers and towards where people get their information from but also a shift towards grouping by certain kinds of behaviors and activity markers. It's like having a process by which people get sorted into houses and then those houses stick for a long time. I think we've always had a version of this (the greek system, which college you go to, whether you're a fan of xyz sports team or xyz music) but I think this intersection with "consuming" is really interesting because it's about being in spaces that are ideologically similar while potentially racially diverse which wasn't always possible in the past. In short, I'd love to read the white paper and discuss more - fascinating!

But when the algorithm is the "sorting hat", you can end up in a house that you might never have consciously seen yourself opting into...
